From target stand to seed order
A field population target is not the same as the number of seeds to buy or sow. Seed lots have germination percentages, and field establishment can be lower than lab germination because of soil crusting, cold soil, pests, water stress, disease, or transplant shock.
Seeds to sow = target plants / (germination rate x field establishment rate)
Use decimal rates: 90% germination = 0.90, 95% field establishment = 0.95.
